Collaborative Publishing

Collaborative Publishing for Women Authors

Publish Her has been recognized by Publishers Weekly magazine as a grade A publisher.

Publish Her is a female-founded independent publisher dedicated to elevating the words, writing and stories of women. We are passionate about amplifying the voices of women of color, women with disabilities and members of the LGBTQ+ community, and we aim to make publishing an attainable, exciting and collaborative process for all.

About Collaborative Publishing

Publish Her is a different kind of author-assisted publisher. We are not a vanity publisher, nor are we a hybrid. We are a member of the Independent Book Publishers Association, which means our books meet or exceed publishing industry standards. We have been recognized multiple times by Publishers Weekly magazine as a grade A publisher for cover design, book design and typography, editing, and marketing. We specialize in print (hardcover and softcover) and electronic books, workbooks, magazines, journals and more.

Writing and publishing a book can be an emotional journey. A manuscript can take years to complete. Most authors spend the majority of their writing time in solitude. And with many publishers, it can take several more years to publish your book. You deserve a publishing experience that is the opposite—that takes weeks or months rather than years to publish; that is an exciting and collaborative process rather than a solo experience; and, most of all, that is a celebration of all you’ve accomplished.

With Publish Her’s Collaborative Publishing, you won’t go it alone. A team of experts supports you on your publishing journey.

Our Team

Publish Her is led by founder and publisher Chris Olsen. Chris grew up in the printing industry (her dad was a 40-year offset press operator), majored in editorial and print publication design, and went on to work in media for 15 years before launching her business. An educator and author of “Whyography: Building a Brand Fueled by Purpose,” Chris has helped thousands of women tell their stories and publish their books.

Publish Her’s team of publishing pros is focused first and foremost on the author. Our publishing managers help you understand the publishing process. Our editors have worked in legal, academic, book and magazine publishing and are passionate about helping authors bring their best work to the world. Our creative team includes photographers, illustrators and designers who are masters at making beautiful books, workbooks and magazines that bring your vision to life. Our marketing experts help build a solid foundation for getting your book noticed and in the hands of the right audience.

Our Promise

Publish Her is unlike other author-assisted publishers. Our promise to authors:

You retain the rights to your book. We believe authors should maintain full ownership of their work always, which means we don’t request rights like most publishers do.

You receive all your book royalties. We believe authors, not publishers, should profit most from book sales, which means—unlike most publishers—we don’t retain a portion of your royalties. (Publish Her shares royalties with the author for books published traditionally through our grant program.)

You are not required to purchase book inventory. We work with on-demand printers and never mark up the cost of printing, so in addition to helping save the environment, authors save money by making their own decisions about inventory.

Your publishing timeline is clear. We have developed a successful and sustainable five-part publishing process, which means you get a well-defined timeline and know what to expect.

Your publishing costs are clear upfront. We provide authors with a publishing proposal that includes one clear price from the get-go—no expensive add-ons or hidden costs.

Our Process

As an independent publisher (and not a vanity or hybrid publisher), we thoughtfully consider each book that bears our imprint, our editing process is rigorous, and we take great care and pride in the final product.

To be considered for collaborative publishing, please submit at least three chapters (up to 100 pages) of your manuscript for editorial review. Our team of publishing pros will assess your manuscript’s readiness and whether we’re a good fit.
