Professional Publishing
Publish Her’s Professional Publishing combines aspects of traditional and self-publishing. We are an independent publisher and not a hybrid or vanity publisher because we believe authors should maintain the rights to their work and retain all of their profits (and hybrid and vanity publishers don’t). We are an official partner member of the Alliance of Independent Authors and a member of the Independent Book Publishers Association, which means our books meet or exceed publishing industry standards. We have been recognized multiple times by Publishers Weekly magazine as a grade A publisher for cover design, book design and typography, editing, and marketing. We specialize in print (hardcover and softcover) and electronic books, workbooks and more.
Writing and publishing a book can be an emotional journey. A manuscript can take years to complete. Most authors spend the majority of their writing time in solitude. And with many publishers, it can take several more years to publish your book. You deserve a publishing experience that is the opposite—that takes months rather than years to bring your project to life; that is an exciting and collaborative process rather than a solo experience; and, most of all, that is a celebration of all you’ve accomplished.
With Publish Her’s Professional Publishing, you won’t go it alone. A team of experts supports you on your publishing journey.
Our Team
Publish Her is led by founder and publisher Chris Olsen. Inspired by her dad’s 40-year career as an offset press operator, Chris studied print publication design and creative writing and went on to work in mainstream media for 15 years before launching her business. An educator and author of “Whyography: Building a Brand Fueled by Purpose,” Chris has helped thousands of women tell their stories and publish their books.
Publish Her’s team of publishing pros is focused first and foremost on the author and helping you understand the publishing process. Our editors have worked in legal, academic, book and magazine publishing and are passionate about helping authors bring their best work to the world. Our creative team includes photographers, illustrators and designers who are masters at making beautiful books, workbooks and magazines that bring your vision to life. Our marketing experts build a solid foundation for getting your book noticed and in the hands of the right audience.
Our Promise
Publish Her is unlike other publishers. Our promise to authors:
You retain the rights to your book. We believe authors should maintain full ownership of their work always, which means we don’t request rights like most publishers do.
You receive all your book royalties. We believe authors, not publishers, should profit most from book sales, which means—unlike most publishers—we don’t retain a portion of your royalties.
You are not required to purchase book inventory. We work with on-demand printers and never mark up the cost of printing, so in addition to helping save the environment, authors save money by making their own decisions about inventory.
Your publishing timeline is clear. We have developed a successful and sustainable five-part publishing process, which means you get a well-defined timeline and know what to expect.
Your publishing investment is clear upfront. We provide authors with a publishing proposal that includes one clear price from the get-go—no expensive add-ons or hidden costs.
Our Process
As an independent publisher, we thoughtfully consider each book we publish, our editing process is rigorous, and we take great care and pride in the final product. We publish many genres of fiction and nonfiction and specialize in photo books (cookbooks, coffee table books, etc.), business books and memoir, as well as crime and romance novels. To be considered for Professional Publishing, submit 100 pages of your completed manuscript for editorial review. Our team of publishing pros will assess the level of support you may need, and whether we’re a good fit.
