Welcome to Publish Her

Your Words Are Worthy. Your Voice Is Important.

In the 1800s, when female authors like Jane Austen and the Brontë sisters were rejected by the male-dominated publishing industry, they self-published their books. At the turn of the century, as the industry boomed, women writers were still dismissed by traditional publishers. Authors like Virginia Woolf took matters into their own hands by purchasing printing presses and launching their own publishing companies.

Many women face obstacles in publishing today. Publish Her is on a mission to disrupt the status quo and remove barriers for authors. We are a female-founded independent publisher dedicated to educating authors and elevating the words, writing and stories of women. We are passionate about amplifying the voices of women of color, women with disabilities and members of the LGBTQ+ community, and we aim to make publishing an attainable, exciting and collaborative process for all.

About Publish Her

Publish Her is a member of the Independent Book Publishers Association and has been recognized multiple times by Publishers Weekly magazine as a grade A publisher. We specialize in print (hardcover and softcover) and electronic books, workbooks, magazines, journals and more.

Writing and publishing a book can be an emotional journey. A manuscript can take years to complete. Most authors spend the majority of their writing time in solitude. And with many publishers, it can take several more years to publish your book. You deserve a publishing experience that is the opposite—that takes weeks or months rather than years to publish; that is an exciting and collaborative process rather than a solo experience; and, most of all, that is a celebration of all you’ve accomplished.

To support women on their publishing journeys, Publish Her provides numerous resources and tools to educate authors, and offers two author-assisted models: Guided Self-Publishing and Collaborative Publishing. We also publish a limited number of titles traditionally.

Guided-Self Publishing

Publish Her’s Guided Self-Publishing offers hands-on publishing support for do-it-yourselfers.

Get valuable insights for self-publishing your book, from ensuring it’s ready to publish and marketable to navigating ever-changing publishing platforms to publishing and promoting your finished product. Virtual sessions are led by publishing expert Chris Olsen, and you select dates and times that work best with your schedule. Learn more.

Collaborative Publishing

Publish Her’s Collaborative Publishing is for authors who’d prefer to have an expert take the lead.

We thoughtfully consider each book that bears our imprint, our editing process is rigorous, and we take great care and pride in the final product. This attention to detail is evident by the grade A publisher recognition we received from Publishers Weekly magazine for cover design, book design and typography, editing, and marketing. We are also a member of the Independent Book Publishers Association, which means that the books we publish meet or exceed publishing industry standards. Submit your manuscript for consideration and learn more.

Traditional Publishing

Publish Her publishes a limited number of books traditionally, primarily through our grant program. (Publish Her shares royalties with the author for books published traditionally through our grant program.)

To qualify for a book publishing grant, you must be the author of a completed and previously unpublished manuscript that is a minimum of 50,000 words (fiction or nonfiction). You must identify as a woman of color, a woman with a disability or a member of the LGBTQ+ community (or any combination of these), as well as a legal resident of the U.S., and 21 years of age or older. Submit your manuscript for consideration and learn more.
